Always like the honest reviews on this channel. I'm going S22 for the more compact size and overall balance and quality. One thing I would like to see is some sort of rating for repairability. Screen and battery should replaceable to stop tech landfill where possible.

I actually can’t use my 13 Pro Max one handed so I bought S22 and it fits perfectly in my hand. Although battery life is just average to me.

I've been on Pixel since the beginning. Sadly, recently, my Pixel 5 screen got smashed. I bought the Pixel 6, but even in the non-pro version the size is just too big. The Pixel 5 was perfect for me. I handled the S22 today and I think that's the ticket for now. I love stock android, hopefully I'll like Samsung's iteration.

"Samsung is promising 4 years of software updates." That is nice. Previously, the lack of software updates was what made me move away from android and move to iOS. Back then when I had the Note 8, I wanted to use a feature in an app but couldn't because I had to update to the latest android software, and I COULD NOT update it with my Note 8! A phone that cost me nearly $1000 at the time, and within 2 years I could not use some features that I wanted to use because I could not upgrade the software of the phone no more. I thought that was ridiculous, and thus just moved to iPhone. I'm glad that they are finally offering longer life spans for these phones. About time.

It's actually horrible and lazy. Samsung could decide to use Lineage OS and get about a decade of updates, but instead they choose to waste resources on a bad OS to purposefully make their phones busted out of the box. This is the same with all other phone makers currently.

I am an iPhone user, I went to Lolo supermarket, I tried many smartphones on display. I am totally impressed by the Samsung S22. The high quality feeling of the exterior back, the flat side edges, the low weight, the super smooth screen and the horizontal swipes have all totally impressed me! It costs $933. I also found Chinese smartphones that provide better features but not as great exterior design and it only costs $100, so I am sold. 🤷‍♂️

Really appreciative of the direction Samsung is headed from here. Was really disheartened to see what they made of Oneplus so was really losing hope that there are no worthy 'Android' replacement phones if I plan to upgrade next year and might have to go for a starting end Apple phone. I currently have an A52 5G, and my family and I are switching to S22s now. Feeling one in my hand, it was weird that it felt so small, especially after going from S5 to S7 to A52 5G, but I like it, a lot. Definitely looking forward to having mine, soon.

@Roberto currently using a 13 pro and I have had up to 9.5 hours of screen on time. If it's the regular 13 series then their batteries aren't as long lasting as the pro series but are still better than most Samsung Galaxy

i went for S22... perfectly sized, fits right in my palm and in my pocket. Top notch specs. Good low-light camera. Happy with battery life too after 2+ weeks of use. Only small but to improve is speaker vol.

Really really hope they bring back the capacitive fingerprint reader on the side of the phone like the S10e. That was just the perfect design (and almost perfect phone), and it was lightning fast.

@Mayumi Hirayama Absolutely! This is hands down the best feature of the finger print reader on the side. It was so incredibly easy to access notifications at a glance. Literally the perfect use for heavy users who need their phones often for work and who are on the go.

I just switched from a s10e to a s22 and I miss the side fingerprint. It was faster and I used it all the time for quickly checking notifications without having to reach to the top of the screen (small hands). Now, it's a pain in the ass to check for notifications while using the phone on one hand, and I keep missing the fingerprint sensor on the screen. Might get better as I get more used to it, and overall it's not a big deal, it's a great phone. I miss the notifications thing though...

I've been an iPhone user since the 4s, (had only been android before that), briefly tried an S6 when they were brand new, immediately returned it for the laggy, hot, terrible experience. Currently have an iPhone 13 mini. But the S22 is the first Android in *ages* I've liked and been envious of/excited about. I wish switching platforms wasn't so incredibly difficult. Not to mention missing out on things like iMessage. I wish Apple would get on the RCS train so its not such a sticking point. Nothing wrong with iPhone other than its just so boring. Stable, efficient, consistent, but boring.

Samsung did exactly what I wanted them to do, short of giving it the same cameras as the ultra. I prefer small phones because of all the adventures I go on. Hides way in my pocket nicely and takes great pictures. I'm excited to get my S22. Coming from an S10

I want Google to make a phone with this type of design again like the pixel 5. Round corners with symmetrical bezels, 6" screen, minimalistic look. But with good hardware like the s22 or the iPhone 13. No need to go too low (2 old cameras with mid-tier ship) like the 5 and too high (wtf that camera system) like the 6. Just good and simple, with Google ship.

I preordered it, used it for 2 weeks, and send it back again. It is almost perfect - cameras, UI experience, design, display. Almost, because the battery life is ruining it. The biggest problems are the standby usage and that certain apps burn through the battery, even though they shouldnt (camera and video call of any kind) - so maybe this will get better with updates. But currently, even on the new April update, I cannot understand how you can recommend this phone. Generally feel like Android / Samsung went off track at some point pushing for higher benchmarks and features that require the phone to be active 24/7. Hope theyll come around again by the time I buy a new phone (so in 4-5 years).

Not sure if you're aware, but on the newest versions of android, do not close apps completely unless you have to (app is misbehaving etc.). Do not hit the "close all apps" button. This is especially true for new Samsung phones that have a specific part of the APU dedicated to battery management. Leave the apps open, it takes a few weeks for the phone to "learn" what apps you use and when in order to optimize battery life. What this means is, the battery does in fact improve over time as you use it. Either that, or the phone you received was defective.

I had to switch to another phone after my excellent p30 pro (battery life, quick charge, cameras!!!) ran into issues with fingerprint sensor. So... I made this huge mistake and purchased s22 with tiny battery, turle slow charging, average cameras comparing to p30 pro. @MKBHD it would be great if you can do the comparison against p30 pro and advise what makes most sense in 800-1200$$ budget

I just got an s22+, and although it does very well across the board, there are a few software glitches that I really hope Samsung squashes fast. As someone who usually buys off brand vanilla Android phones, I find my first step into 'Mainstream' flagships is somewhat of a let down.

@Kevin Barrios Most have been fixed but there's still one that persists that's annoying. If I switch between apps, the touch screen doesn't respond straight away, after a couple of seconds it's fine but those few seconds of non responsiveness is annoying.

@Netflix Entertainment the s22 is only 140 bucks compared to 750 bucks for ultra so I wanna check it out if I like it I will return s22 ultra not sure yet and get money back. I don't use all the fancy stuff on ultra. Marquees brownlee did a review and he liked the s22 overall.

@Marufio M why 22 when you have ultra ? My iPhone 12 Pro Max gives me 10h:15 minutes. This is after 1 year of use. Battery health is at 85% now. I still get this much time. But it’s in Wifi. IN data it will suck a lot of battery.

What I hate about Samsung is that I just upgraded recently from the s9 to s22, so the previous 2 flexible chargers take 4 times as long now because Samsung had to come out with a new charger for the s22 which makes the old chargers kind of useless. FU for making things so dam inconvenient Samsung!!!

Just wanted to mention my s22+ from my s10+ after having it for about a month. I don't feel the battery life is better then the s10+ when it was new. I find the s22+ eats through the battery at a decent pace (heavy use) I think the s10+'s battery life now is worse then the s22+ right now but we are talking about a old very well used phone. Things I miss. the headphone jack. the work truck has a crap stereo, I use a 3.5mm jack to fm transmitter, I just bought a bluetooth to fm transmitter for truck, ill see how it works out. I very much dislike where the power button is on the s22+ every other day it bugs me. I have a phone holder that also charges the phone in my truck. and where it grips the phone which is in the middle is pretty well right where the power button is. I also very much hate where the volume buttons are. they should be on the other side like the s10+. Another very very annoying part of the s22+ is to turn the phone off you don't just press and hold the power button, that brings up bixby.(shouldn't bixby have died or have an option to turn this off by now?) You have to press the vol down and power and hold it to turn the phone off now. stupid. Also. to take a screen shot it is the same power and vol down buttons, but I have yet been able to do this using my thumb yet. I have to use both hands on 1 side of the phone which I dislike. I think the fingerprint is too high, and also seems to bug out more often then my s10+ phone. Love the flat screen. The s22+ feels a little bit faster for sure. I almost feel like buyers remorse. Like it is way too much money for a phone which I don't believe is that much better. (screen on s10+ has better res) I like and notice a difference with the 5g, but I also think this is probably is what makes the phone eat batteries more to make it feel like the battery life is worse then the s10+ when it was new. Anyhow. Just figured I'd throw my 2 cents in. Maybe I should of waited longer with the s10+.

Very well said, "in-the-hand feel"... in case of this model, if you ask me, it;s an absolute perfection, great grip and overall weight balance... Last phones that fit in my hand that way were Galaxy S9, and S10e (still have it but soon will need replacement, honestly I was scared that kind of smaller phones is exterminated forever (not counting iPhone mini, it's ok but not my cup of tea in terms of software and conception). Thank you for sharing great and usefull review! It made me visit shop and convince myself there;s still some hope for smaller model fans :) Cheers!

Hey @Marques Brownlee, thanks for creating this video. As you mentioned in your video title, you call S22 series as iPhone of Android. I have a question with respect to longevity of iPhone 13 v s22 - in terms of regular usage (I do not play games) over the course of 4 years or so, which one would have better battery performance and healthier battery. My experiences with budget android have been not so good, they start to show their ageing of battery within 2 years of use. Currently i am using a nokia 6.1 plus (purchased back in Sept 2018), which i have to charge twice during 24 hrs, the phone also crashes quite a lot and this has been a regular occurrence since 3-4 months or so. I am currently in a limbo while choosing between iphone 13 and S22 or S21 FE (india version). Also, with iphone 13, will i be able to use my type C USB Dual drive (OTG drive) with the help of Lightening to type C female adapter? Looking forward to your reply, thank you.

I would choose the S22, I average 5hrs of Screen time a day and end off days with my iphone 13 with 10 to 20 pct left, 3 months of using thr phone (I'm a regular user and I don't even play games), my phone is at 91% battery health, my old Galaxy S21 did not lose health this easily and I've just changed back to my S21 as its alot smoother and it's battery life is as good as a new iphone 13, definitely buying the s23 next year

I wish the external volume would go higher. It is not as loud as the S20 5G for example. Otherwise I like it very much. It has no faults or issues for me. Love the size for my hands and for fitting in pockets. My S22 has vibrated off a shelf 2 times for me. Glad I have a case on it. Like that its price is less than the S20 5G was.

@G B From the way I see it, the S22 Ultra isn't truly a part of the S line. It's a successor to the note line just under the S branding so they can sell more units since it's more mainstream. That's why they made a different design for it

my S22+ is great 👍🏽 I have had no software problems or any other kinds of issues after using for more than a month. my battery life is also good. I can easily watch get over 10 hours sot which I do every night scrolling social media so I have absolutely no complaints.

As a recovering OnePlus fanboy, the S22+ will be my first Samsung phone since the Galaxy Note 4. Seeing the joke a launch from the OnePlus 10 Pro, and hearing the leaks of the regular OP10, and OP10R, it seems if I'm look to upgrade, Samsung will be the best bet. RIP OnePlus. Hopefully Carl Pei's Nothing will be something. at least until they sell out too.

I agree with you Marques. Oxygen OS and OnePlus phones in general have gone downhill after the OnePlus 8 series and pixels seems to have lots of bugs and hardware problems but Sammy has gone on to become the Android manufacturer of choice by default by many people especially here in America.

I really wish the INhistoryrs could also review the customer service as well. I recently went through a nightmare trying to fix the cracked screen of my Zflip3 phone. (1)went to ubreakifix and waited five hours to find that they can't fix the phone and lost my sim card tray. (2) mailed it to Samsung to have it fixed to find that they would charge me for repair despite I having the hardware warranty and the Samsung care plus (it doesn't work like apple, you have to fine a claim), and then (3) samsung put me on A neverending loop of being redirected between three teams. After two weeks, I am getting my phone returned with the issue worsened (sim card tray lost). I would say cool features on a phone intrigues you for three months tops while the customer service lasts throughout the period you own the phone. And Samsung is the worst of worst.

My experience with few Samsung phones over the years was always bad and irritating. Good phones overall, however some things that they do are really annoying. For example the camera is always at full brightness, this can not be turned off for some strange reason. There are few other things I never found the solutions, good I forgot about them. :) I always found LG and even Xiaomi less annoying although not being perfect as well.

First things first, great review as usual. The Iphone of android is a very bold title and it is very interesting to see Samsung taking less risks to bring a more "main stream" phone to the market. No new tech or crazy functions, just what they know they can do well in a good looking phone. It is very sad to still see people "defending" Apple and Android in the comment section as if they would get paid to do it. As long as all brands develop good phones and offer competitive price's, all consumer's win. Samsung certainly pushes Apple out of their conforte zone as much as Apple does it to Samsung. For us, it is a clear win-win 👌🏻

@pro shooters sure and it makes sense that apple rather go that path. It is very important to be the golden standard and to set the tone among all brands. On the other hand those Android companies are not related to each other and all have to sell in order to exist. They are doing their best to differentiate themselves from all other android brands by developing different devices through new functions, modifiying android with their own versions and being competitive with their prices. I admire Samsung for doing the "normal" Galaxy phones but also trying to fold and flip screens. Those are expensive and not for everyone but at some point the technology will eventually become better and better and who knows what the new "normal" will be.

@RmNsNd it is mostly because apple is 1 company holding ios while there are over 1000 different android companies so they have lots more free space to experiment with wild and crazy stuff in my opinion its a good thing that they are doing it. I am wary about the battery life, I usually stick with my phones for a few years, and I see battery life drop to around 60% of the original over time, as battery replacements are not easy and in my country legit batteries are nearly impossible to find I feel like battery life of a new phone should be at least 2 days. I know flagships push the CPU harder, but honestly I see myself going for a 6 series snapdragon or equivalent with an at least 1080p amoled (qhd made me really picky) and a 4000mAh battery at least to be my next phone.

The Galaxy S22 line has compromised a lot since the S20. The lower screen resolution with the flat sides makes this seem like an over priced budget phone.
